As cable loses ground to fixed wireless internet and fiber overbuilds, the story going forward will not be if customers switch ISPs, but when.
Over the next six months, about 1 out of 4 customers are considering switching internet providers. In fact, it has already begun in certain areas with wireless operators invading cable’s home turf. For example, T-Mobile currently controls only a sliver of the market, but is expected to win the coming ISP turnover in a big way; AlphaROC’s data shows striking gains in not only rural areas, but in urban and suburban areas as well. Of course, cable reigns for the time being, but a cutthroat future awaits as regional comparisons highlight many more options for switchers.
